Roshna Shirin Kakkadath is a PhD Researcher at the University of Sussex, affiliated with the Energy Demand Research Centre (EDRC). Her research explores how governance mechanisms and individual decision-making can support low energy demand futures in the mobility sector—bringing together questions of energy policy, behavior, and social equity.
She brings a strong professional background in public policy and grassroots implementation. As District Lead for India’s National Nutrition Mission, Roshna coordinated large-scale programme delivery, stakeholder engagement, and frontline training across the district. At the Tinkerhub Foundation, she contributed to youth-led, technology-driven policy strategies and institutional development. She also worked as a Research Assistant on the EMPOCI project at the University of Sussex, which investigates how the global low-carbon transition in energy and mobility systems can be accelerated through integrated policy mixes and transformative capacity across key regions.
Roshna holds a Master’s in Energy and Climate Policy from the University of Sussex and a Master’s in Development Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Motivated by a belief in inclusive energy transitions, she approaches her work through an interdisciplinary lens—blending qualitative methods, policy analysis, and a people-centred perspective. Her interests lie in how everyday choices and institutional mechanisms can help shape more just and sustainable futures.
