Chika Onyewuchi is a Research Assistant with the School of Built Environment at the University of Reading. He is also a PhD Student in Construction Management, where his doctoral research focuses on leveraging systems thinking approaches to address complex climate concerns within energy infrastructure. His work aims to develop holistic understandings and solutions for enhancing the resilience and sustainability of these critical systems in the face of environmental change.
Prior to his current role, Chika worked as an Energy Analyst with the University of Reading’s sustainability team. In this capacity, he was an integral part of the team responsible for monitoring and actively seeking to reduce the university’s overall energy consumption. As part of his dissertation research during his M.Sc. study; Chika researched the innovative use of baseload consumption relative to mean consumption as a method to identify and quantify energy waste, particularly during off-peak periods, and through this identified time specific wastes in representative buildings across the campus. Through this research, ways of minimizing wastes and contributing to more efficient energy management strategies within the university’s operations were proposed.
