Dr. Katherine Sugar

Research Fellow University of Manchester

Katherine is a Research Fellow in the Department of Geography at the University of Manchester. She has joined the Place Theme to undertake research on Place-based retrofit and regeneration models (PEER).

She has previously held positions in the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford, and School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh. Her involvement in research primarily concentrates on the role of places in governing sustainable and inclusive transitions, including the multi-level actors involved, the barriers and tensions encountered, and schemes and projects for implementing low carbon and just transitions across places.

She has been involved in the UKERC projects “SME governance for net zero” and “finance and public procurement for net zero”, in addition to investigating pilots of the Scottish Government’s Energy Efficient Scotland programme.

She is also part of the MERIT (Mapping Engagement Routes for the Industrial Transition) Flexible Fund project.
