Jonathan is a Senior Research Fellow at the Sustainability Research Institute, University of Leeds. Jonathan’s academic background was originally in Mechanical Engineering and his research often has a strong quantitative basis, although he takes an interdisciplinary approach where possible. His interests lie in a broad, systems, approach to the question of how material and resource efficiency can best contribute to energy demand reduction, with a particular focus on the industrial sector. He previously led work in this area under the Positive Low Energy Futures activities of the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS). Another area of interest is energy and carbon accounting of supply chains, and he is involved in producing the UK and Scotland’s consumption-based emissions accounts. Jonathan has advised and undertaken analysis for numerous UK government departments, as well as the Climate Change Committee (CCC).
