Dr Ahmed Gailani is currently undertaking whole system research to explore how the UK industry can reduce its greenhouse gasses emissions to reach Net Zero by 2050. Ahmed is interested in modelling industrial energy use, decarbonisation technologies and future infrastructure availability.
Ahmed was awarded a prestigious secondment to join the Climate Change Committee by IDRIC with time contribution from UKERC receiving funding as principal investigator. Through the secondment, Ahmed focused on the modelling framework on industrial decarbonisation pathways, which will be critical in establishing the contribution of industry towards emissions in the Seventh Carbon Budget period and the CCC advise to the UK government.
At EDRC, Ahmed explores how industrial energy demand can be reduced on a local and national level across the UK to meet net zero targets.
