Carla is a PhD researcher at SPRU at the University of Sussex. She is from Chile, and her research is about decentralised energy systems, specifically community energy projects, and their contribution to ecosocial energy transitions in Chile and the UK.

She is an environmental engineer and has a Master’s degree in energy from the Australian National University. She has more than 14 years of experience in renewable energies, local governance, environmental assessment, and community participation, working mostly in the public sector, specifically in the Metropolitan Regional Office of Energy. Carla has been part of the promotion of community energy in Chile since its inception, and currently, she is a member and co-founder of the Chilean NGO Energia Colectiva, which aims to promote community energy projects in the country.

For this flexible fund, Carla is one of the core team members in the Advancing global collaboration and equity in energy demand research: engaging early career researchers through the NEST 2025 platform Flexible Fund Project
