Dr. Angela Smith

Research Fellow University of Leeds

Angela is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Transport Studies. She has joined the Place Theme following a three-year post-doctoral fellowship within the E-Drone research team and subsequent work on the Future Flight in Place project. Within the E-Drone project, Angela used interviews and observations to develop an empirical understanding of NHS logistics practices associated with the movement of time-sensitive products. Her work to understand wider public perspectives around the potential future use of drones and eVTOL in transport systems involved the development of tools which aimed to support meaningful engagement. This included the use of virtual reality, serious games and the development of an animation. She is particularly interested in how changes in transport systems can be more effectively communicated. Angela’s PhD, from Bournemouth University, was in transport use in rural tourism. Her PhD used a social practice lens to examine how visitors interacted with transport in a rural destination area using the case study of the New Forest National Park. Angela’s background is in transport planning, before starting her research career she worked in consultancy and for a local authority.
