Main purpose:

To support EDRC’s international reach in the form of collaboration in research visits, developing projects, working towards joint publications, and developing workshops. In this round, projects are expected to focus on specific areas. We will publish more details of this call soon.

Maximum amount of EDRC funding per project:

£15,000 per collaboration (80% fEC)

Start date:

This fund is now on pause and will relaunch again in Autumn 2026. Please note that applications are not being accepted at this time and will not be reviewed.

Eligibility and who can apply:

EDRC existing team and those new to EDRC.

Requirements:

  • These funds can be requested by both EDRC staff and external researchers for joint international collaborations within the wider UKRI funding rules.
  • These would support for example, short visits (max two weeks) by EDRC researchers to another country or international scholars to an EDRC institution to undertake research and/or develop collaborative outputs such as joint publications.
  • Applications may also include some costs for a workshop at the international partner, if appropriately justified. Existing EDRC applicants must clearly justify why their costs cannot be covered by their existing EDRC travel budget.
  • Applicants will be asked to outline the benefits of their international activity to both EDRC and the UK energy demand field.
  • Applicants will also need to detail EDI and trusted considerations in research design, data management and justification of resources (see also Appendix 3 Application form details).

Additional requirements regarding international travel:

Applicants are asked to consider the environmental impacts of their travel for all activities and choose sustainable travel options wherever possible. If applicants are proposing to fly, they will need to add an explanation as to why they cannot use a different mechanism for travel (e.g. for inclusivity reasons).

Outcomes:

Details of how funds have been used, quarterly progress, links to a specific EDRC Theme or Challenge, outputs, achieved impact.
